Ruppin Academic Center's Institute for Immigration and Social Integration hosted two international delegations in late March 2008:
The International Metropolis Project, March 24-26, 2008
The Center hosted The International Metropolis Project Organizing Committee on March 24-26. The members of this committee, who represent academic and public institutions around the world, are updated at the annual meetings regarding what is being done in this realm in various countries. The committee, as a representative of the Project, encourages international research and provides a platform for researchers, academics and policy makers from Israel and abroad who specialize in immigration and social integration in a multi-cultural society. The Institute for Immigration and Social Integration joined the Project Organizing Committee some three years ago. Representatives from all of the European countries and North America (14 people) participated in the committee meetings held at Ruppin Academic Center, where updates were provided from around the world regarding crucial issues related to immigration and the social integration of immigrants. The committee discussed details of the Project's annual conference which will be held in Bonn, Germany in October 2008.
The Canadian - Israeli Dialog, March 27-28, 2008
Ruppin Academic Center's Institute for Immigration and Social Integration organized and hosted the Canadian - Israeli Immigration Dialog on March 27-28. Seventeen Canadian researchers and professionals from the immigration field participated, presenting their most updated research and raising central Canadian immigration issues for discussion. Israeli academics (most of whom are related to the Institute) and representatives of Israeli institutions (The Ministry of Absorption, The Jewish Agency and more) also presented their updated immigration and absorption research. The dialog concluded with a fruitful discussion that raised the similarities and differences between the two countries in their handling of the immigration phenomenon. This fruitful discussion was continued in September 2008 in Montreal, Canada.
