An Index of Immigrant Integration in Israel
The State of Israel is built on immigration. Some 50% of its citizens have immigrated to Israel and a large number of the others are children of immigrants (second generation). Nonetheless, the issue of immigrant integration into Israeli society, in all its various aspects, was never examined methodically, utilizing uniform parameters and multi-annual comparison.
The Ruppin Index of immigrant integration in Israel was developed by the Institute for Immigration and Social Integration (Aliyah and Absorption) at the Ruppin Academic Center in order to attribute assessment values to the integration level of various immigrant groups within Israeli society from a number of aspects. By presenting these assessment values, we hope to deepen the knowledge and gain broader understanding of the central accelerating factors related to the integration process of immigrants into Israeli society, as well as the central inhibiting factors of such integration and subsequently, the areas that warrant attention in order to improve immigrants' absorption and integration into Israeli society.
The Ruppin Index, the first of its kind, aims to provide tools in aid of decision making processes and policy shaping as well as to enrich the knowledge and understanding of those who work in the field so as to further the establishment, development and improvement of plans and services provided to immigrant populations in order to maximize the options for their successful absorption. The Index is to be published annually, thus allowing the examination of trends by field workers, researchers and students based upon uniform, centralized, reliable information.
