The Department of Economics and Management

This study program awards graduates B.A. degrees in Economics and Management which are recognized by the Council for Higher Education.
The economic trends occurring in the world - globalization, the development of awakening markets and the integration of the Israeli economy into the international economy - create a need for skilled professionals in the economic realm.
Department Objectives
To instill students with knowledge and analysis tools in the economics and management fields, both at the micro level of households and businesses and at the macro level of national and international economics. This study framework emphasizes the implementation of theory in practice through analysis of real life economic and social events and problems from Israel and around the world.
Department Characteristics
The employment market's demand for employees with academic knowledge of economics who were also trained in the management field is steadily increasing. Thus, this study program incorporates both the economics and management fields.
The Study Program
The program includes studies in the following areas:
Economics and Finance studies provide students with economic analysis tools, an understanding of economic processes in Israel, analysis tools for the financial management of firms and knowledge of the Israeli securities market as well as foreign securities markets. Studies also include subjects related to economic inequality and poverty, natural resources and risk management.
Accounting studies equip students with tools for the understanding and analysis of financial reports as well as tools for making administrative decisions at various management levels.
Management studies provide knowledge and skills related to managing human resources, developing and furthering intellectual capital.
Computer and Information Systems studies provide a command of computers, office and statistics programs, systems that support decision making, software and the internet.
Practical workshops such as "The Dynamics of Risk Taking" and a business game, which is a simulation of the operations of businesses in the competitive market, conclude the study program.
Entering the Employment Market
Upon completing their studies, graduates of the department will be able to enter the business, private and public sectors in a variety of economic and administrative roles, such as financial officer, accountant, economist, budget manager, treasurer, team manager, consultant, economic analyst and more.
The department offers three specialization tracks: Financing and Banking.
Sub-Specialization in Financing and Banking
This program deals with aspects of the capital market within the broad framework of economics: the role of money in the system, the mode of determining interest rates, tools available to the firm in monitoring risk and tracking the development of financial tools offered to investors and firms that are traded in capital markets in Israel and around the world.
Studies in this specialization grant an exemption from a number of examinations required by the Israel Securities Authority in order to obtain accreditation as an investment consultant and investment portfolio manager.
Among the Study Subjects
The specialization includes subjects such as local and international capital markets field, financing a firm, analyzing securities, stock options and future contracts, capital issuance.
Entering the Employment Market
A wide range of management and also lower level positions are open to track graduates in the finance-banking sector, finance departments, accounting and financial management within firms.
International Trade and Marine Resource Management Track
Due to the increasing demand in the employment market for professionals in the marine field, a unique track was opened in the field of International Trade and Marine Resource Management.
Globalization, free trade agreements, unification of blocs and new super powers, geopolitical changes in the world in general and Israel in particular, have increased the need for the intelligent use of marine brokerage. This study track directs students toward the development of international trade areas.
The track's objective is to provide knowledge, management tools, capabilities and skills in international trade management from marine, air and land perspectives. The unique studies combine theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
Among the Study Subjects
Within the framework of the track, students take courses in the fields of international trade, logistics and supply chain management, introduction to the marine environment, marine insurance and law, marine resource management, models of ship fleet management and even theoretical and practical seamanship.
Upon completing the track, in addition to receiving their undergraduate degree, students may take an external examination to become certified by the Customs Department as international forwarders and they may even receive a license to sail speed boats, as issued by the Ministry of Transportation (subject to passing the test).
Entering the Employment Market
The program prepares its graduates to enter into management positions in the international trade industry, import and export departments in the industrial sector, international air-sea-land trade service companies, maritime companies, sea ports, government offices, foreign trade departments within banking organizations and more.
