BA in Economics and Management
Finance and Financial Consulting MajorA
Alumni of this major will be prepared for financial and financial consulting positions in economic organizations, financial institutions, and businesses. The major provides students with a basic understanding of the concepts and models in the discipline of finance and familiarity with the structure of the capital market and its patterns of activity. Alumni of the major will be equipped with knowledge and tools vital to making decisions in the disciplines of financial management and to smoothly joining professional and management teams that deal with these disciplines at consulting firms and companies. The major includes a variety of courses that combine theory and academic models with the reality of business in various areas – finance on the individual and company level, capital market activities, capital movement, financial tools, bond markets, assessing the value of companies, and more.
For alumni interested in earning an additional professional certificate: This major endows alumni with most of the knowledge required to succeed on the Israel Securities Authority’s exams to obtain professional licenses in the capital market – a license for an investment advisor and a license for an investment portfolio manager. Preparation for this is available in special conditions designed especially for alumni of this department in Ruppin’s Certificate Studies Unit upon completing the degree.
Finance, Insurance, and Pension Management Major
The practice of mandatory pensions in Israel and growing awareness of the necessity of saving funds for retirement alongside the constant rise in life expectancy broadens the demand for skilled workers in the fields of financing, insurance, and pensions. This major expands finance studies to the field of insurance and pensions and managing long-term savings. Its alumni attain knowledge of the structure of the pension system and financing methods and also are introduced to government regulation in the capital and pension market. In addition to finance courses, the major includes courses on the basics of insurance and pension economics as well as a practical workshop.
Alumni of the major can go on to positions in financing, planning, and managing risks as well as pension advising and marketing in all the organizations that deal with pension savings: pension funds, insurance companies, investment houses, banks, the Israeli National Insurance Institute, and the Israeli Ministry of Finance’s departments that deal with the capital market, insurance, and saving.

Information Systems Major

Today information systems are the heart of economic and financial organizations and businesses in the private and public sector. They enable every organization to manage its business operations in a sophisticated manner in every field: financial systems, human resource management, marketing, advertising, sales, electronic trade, customer service, and more. More companies and organizations need executives who are skilled at analyzing and processing data in order to efficiently utilize a wealth of financial data and to derive tools from the data that the organization accumulates in order to make business decisions and build alternative strategies, characterize transactions, manage risks, and develop economically in a competitive world. This major puts a technological and practical emphasis on managerial and technological aspects of computerization as well as on ties to the world of business, commerce, and the internet. The theoretical knowledge and the practical experience in information technology systems give alumni of this major an advantage in becoming economists and finance professionals at investment firms, insurance companies, banks, industrial companies, and government bodies. Furthermore, this combination enables alumni to deal with developing new business and economic models that suit the internet age. Individualized Major
In this major, the academic program is designed especially for each student. The students in this major take all the required courses in economics and business administration. In addition, they build a personal course load from the various elective courses in the disciplines of economics and finance and from elective courses from other departments in computers, marketing, environmental studies, and human resources. The individualized major grants students an undergraduate degree in economics and business administration, a broad view of the discipline, and a thorough acquaintance with additional academic disciplines.
