Scholarships for outstanding applicants to the Faculty of Marine Sciences – The Faculty of Marine Sciences awards a special full-tuition (100%) scholarship for one year (the scholarship is disbursed over a two-year period) to students accepted to their first year of studies in the BSc program in marine sciences and marine environment who earned a score of 690 or higher on the psychometric exam.

Seamanship studies – In order to develop the skills needed to research the sea, students participate in courses to sail speedboats and yachts and receive training in sailing. This involves sailing along the Israeli coast, to Cyprus, and to Greece. Students have the option of earning an international sailing license. The faculty also offers sport diving courses and a scientific diving course. The diving and sailing clubs also are at students’ disposal during their free time.

Wide-ranging academic connections – In order to increase public awareness regarding the Mediterranean Sea’s research potential, the teaching faculty maintains close ties with researchers from other academic institutions and organizes national and international conferences on Mediterranean Sea research.

Social involvement – Students participate in many environmental projects related to protecting the marine environment: cleaning beaches, teaching the public to recycle and prevent pollution of the sea, actively fighting to save the Poleg Park and Palmahim Beach, protecting the sea turtle population in the Mediterranean Sea, and monitoring poisons and sewage in the sea.

Pre-med studies – Students in the BSc program in marine sciences and marine environment and the BSc program in marine biotechnology take courses in psychology and sociology and receive a certificate that allows them to be accepted to the shorter four-year medical faculty programs in Israel.

Scholarships – In addition to the scholarships routinely granted, applicants with high scores or who are active in tutoring projects for youth at Mevo’ot Yam and other youth villages in the region or at the Sea Turtle Rescue Center also are eligible for scholarships.

Preparatory programs – Applicants who do not yet meet the program’s admission requirements can participate in one of the preparatory programs:

Pre-academic program for science studies: This program is designed for applicants who have not completed all the required exams and courses, including those with only a partial matriculation certificate.

The Path to Academia preparatory program: This program is for applicants who have a full matriculation certificate. Those who complete this preparatory program can be accepted to the BSc program without taking the psychometric exam.

Career placement assistance – The program’s alumni website collects and publicizes details about specific employment opportunities that are relevant to this field.
