Facts

MBA

  • Executive program at subsidized tuition rate: This is one of the only programs at a government-subsidized college in Israel whose participants enjoy a double advantage – both a convenient schedule that makes studies accessible to executives, self-employed, and full-time employees and university-level tuition, which is significantly lower than tuition at a private college.
  • The dean hosts: A special framework sponsored by the dean organizes high-quality meetings with senior figures in the economy to consider a long list of issues currently on the public agenda. Recent guests have included (partial list) Bank of Israel Governor Dr. Karnit Flug; former Bank of Israel Governor Prof. Stanley Fischer; Prof. Eytan Sheshinski; former Israeli Minister of Transportation Yisrael Katz; Hagai Shalom, owner of Tashlovet Kvutzat Ha’argaz; Yanki Margalit, chairperson of Space-IL and a founder of the Aladdin company; Dr. Danny Gold, inventor of Iron Dome; Ori Levin, entrepreneur and former president of the WAZE company; David Brodet, Bank Leumi chairperson; Prof. Amir Barnea; Prof. Nathan Sussman, director of the research division at the Bank of Israel; Prof. Dan Ariely; and many others.
  • Elective courses from distinctive master’s degree programs: Students in the program can select two courses from the other distinctive master’s degree programs that the Ruppin Academic Center offers, such as logistics and maritime systems, immigration and social integration, or marine resource management.
  • A practical training program (practicum) in organizational consulting: MBA students in the organizational consulting major are offered the opportunity to continue onward to practical training, a practicum in which they earn certification as an expert organizational consultant.

Goal of the practicum: To enable students to gain significant experience in organizational consulting throughout the final semester of studies. Participants find an organization, connect with it, and together formulate a plan for organizational development or change, implement the plan, and write a final report. Participants receive guidance, on an individual and group basis, throughout the process.

Via an extraordinary connection with the field, students translate the latest academic material and formulate a solution to the problems and challenges that arise in the real world. Experienced mentors, who are among the most senior figures in the profession, guide students through this process.

Important: The hands-on practicum to train expert organizational advisors is offered in conjunction with the External Studies and Career Management Unit.
  • Global management: All majors in the MBA program include courses that touch on the global aspects of management. Reading material and analysis of case studies deal with examples from the Israeli and international business world. The course, Globalization in the 21st Century, Changes and Trends, covers contemporary globalization processes and economic, business, and political aspects that characterize it. Students are introduced to distinctive management tools that help in planning and implementing sophisticated business policies in the global age and teach how to assess the economic and business strengths of policy and if it is worthwhile to invest in it.
  • Online courses: Students can take an online course from the Coursera website, which offers a selection of courses on management topics taught by lecturers from institutions around the world. Registration for online courses is dependent upon receiving approval in advance and paying the website, if required.

Simulations

The students, most of whom are executives, will be asked during their studies to make strategic agility suggestions, after they understand the theoretical and scientific literature at the forefront of academic research.

A number of computerized and live simulations have been designed to enable students to implement the advanced business models and practice making decisions in different fields. The faculty oversees the simulations. Selected examples of simulations in the different majors in the MBA program include:

  • Finance simulation: Students manage real funds that are invested via the Ruppinvest investment fund and serve as active players in the Israeli and international capital market.
  • Digital simulation: Teams of students compete to develop a brand and the brand’s performance. For eight virtual quarters, they make strategic decisions and respond to unexpected scenarios. The simulation is conducted in English and includes Skype conversations, financial reports, and market indicators that are received every few days. The students directly experience the world of management and marketing, gaining an understand of the implications of their decisions in light of their competitors’ actions.
  • International business study trip: a study trip went to Hong Kong in cooperation with one of the leading Chinese universities. Every year, students visit a different international business center.
  • Concluding business simulation: In the final semester of the program, the computerized Business Game takes place, serving as a practical summary of the many principles that were acquired throughout the program and enabling students to practice and assimilate them in an experiential and competitive manner.

The live simulation games focus on the independence of the student and the student’s responsibility to study, work, and create personal and group knowledge. Another important aspect is the interaction that is created between the groups of participants.
