Research Group in Environmental and Social Sustainability

About Us

The acceleration of industrialization and urbanization, as well as the population growth and constant rise in the standard of living, processes that have peaked in recent decades, have led to a dramatic increase in consumption, to an unprecedented strain on Earth’s resources, to pollution of the natural environment, and to an acceleration of climatic changes that have unprecedented effects on the world’s population. In addition to the environmental effects, which have consequences for human health and the environment, these phenomena also affect economic and social processes.

Research Group in Environmental and Social Sustainability at the Ruppin Academic Center promotes multidisciplinary research that takes place at the interface between environmental sciences, engineering, economics, and social sciences. The group is made up of top-notch researchers from the Ruppin Academic Center who have proven research experience, who have joined together with the goal of advancing multidisciplinary research for the benefit of decision makers, researchers, and the community at large.

The group comprises researchers from the four Ruppin faculties: Engineering, Marine Sciences, Economics and Business Administration, and Social and Community Sciences. Its activities are based on a multidisciplinary perception of the challenges and their solutions, with special emphasis on interdisciplinary studies in areas such as sustainability and consumption, management and sustainability, economics and health, health and environment, immigration and environment, immigration and service, entrepreneurship and immigration, engineering and meteorology, energy consumption, logistics and transportation of goods, marketing and environment, and more.

In addition to values from the world of sustainability (informed utilization of existing resources and moderate growth that will also enable future generations to benefit from the same resources and living conditions), research conducted by the group also promotes values such as reducing consumption, promoting social equality and social responsibility in the climatic context, improving food security, promoting health (both physical and mental), sustainable planning, fair employment, focusing on vulnerable populations, preserving biological diversity, Israel as part of the international community, and more.

The group’s research projects focus on current and relevant issues, collaborating with the industry, social organizations, the community, government ministries, the Israeli Climate Forum, and academic institutions in Israel and abroad.
