Further Studies and Employment Opportunities
Faculty of Marine Sciences
The undergraduate programs that the Ruppin Academic Center offers in marine sciences and marine biotechnology are the only ones of their kind in Israel. Thanks to the meticulous, high-quality academic training they provide, some 30 percent of the programs’ alumni are accepted to graduate studies at institutions of higher education in Israel and abroad. Some alumni go on to pursue advanced degrees in other fields such as medicine, veterinary studies, pharmacy, neurobiology, bioinformatics, genetics, biochemistry, and more. Furthermore, the undergraduate programs at the Faculty of Marine Sciences are classified as pre-med studies by universities so students who graduate from them with honors can go on to the four-year programs at medical or veterinary Faculties.
On the professional front, the faculty’s alumni are engaged in initiatives in areas such as marine agriculture, desalination, and marine and coastal ecology. They also serve in a variety of positions in the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Israeli Ministry for Environmental Protection, environmental organizations, biotech companies, cosmetics firms, start-ups, and research and service labs at hospitals and universities. Some alumni teach marine sciences or are counselors for youths and adults, serve as research assistants and conduct research while pursuing advanced degrees, or work in traditional maritime professions such as sailing and diving as crew members or skippers.
