Marine Sciences Youth Program

Awareness of the marine environment and the importance of research led the Ruppin Academic Center to establish the Yuli and Sami Ofer Marine Sciences Youth Program at the Faculty of Marine Sciences.

The initiative aims to expand scientific horizons among youths, and particularly to deepen their acquaintance with the complex habitats of the sea and the processes that occur in them. Participating in the initiative’s activities provides youths with a multidisciplinary scientific experience while encouraging them to embark upon a fascinating, challenging intellectual adventure. The activities include lectures, lab work, excursions on the research vessel, and active learning on the beach.

The topics participants study include:

  • Oceanography in All its Depths presents the attributes of water and the complex chemical and physical conditions of the marine environment and their influence on the organisms that develop in this environment.
  • Introduction to the marine flora and fauna on Israel’s Mediterranean coast and the marine food chain.
  • Marine research methods and the stages of conducting scientific research.
  • Developing environmental awareness and understanding of the importance of protecting the coastal and marine environment.
