After-school Program
Marine Sciences Youth Program
At each session, there is an opening lecture and followed by one of the activities described below, depending on the topic.

Lectures: Introduction to marine sciences, views of the sea in the ancient world, underwater geology, sea mammals, marine ecology, marine invertebrates, marine botany, marine agriculture, and more.

Lab: Ichthyology – introduction to Mediterranean fish, Study of plankton including collecting of plankton and lab analyses, zoology of invertebrates, physics and chemistry of seawater, extracting chlorophyll from algae, cnidaria cells (cnidocytes) from sea anemone, and producing agar from algae.

Field trips: Collecting samples from the the Alexander River, environmental quality and cleaning up beaches, marine agriculture, and the Sea Turtle Rescue Center.

Maritime activities: Reading a marine weather forecast and understanding the symbols and rulers, from interpretation to weathervanes, building personal sea vessels, sailing a rowboat and sailboat, and snorkeling.
