Engineering and Community Project

Resource Development & External Relations Unit

Our objectives

To address the future needs of the State of Israel, in two critical areas - engineering/high-tech and community engagement, by establishing an innovative professional academic training framework of engineers with empathy and social responsibility, alongside Social & Community Sciences students. This unique training program, the first of its kind in the world - will take place at the RAC, in an innovative building spanning 4,500 sqm which will house the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, as well as the Social & Community Sciences study programs.

 The underlying project rationale

In view of Israel’s future needs, the RAC seeks to expand the Faculty of Engineering, as well as the Social & Community Sciences programs, and to change the modes of academic training so that they are better suited for the future employment market.

The initiative addresses the current and future needs of the State of Israel in terms of the technological revolution and the growing market demand for engineers and high-tech people, alongside rapid increased demand for workers in the community professions. There is already a current shortage in these fields - engineering, hi-tech and community - and the need is only expected to grow.

The uniqueness of our program is found in the combination we initiated between extensive training of young people in these professions together with implementing a significant change in the nature of academic training. According to our vision, tomorrow’s engineers will be professionals in the field of engineering, but also possess additional essential skills, such as the ability to work in a team with and alongside communities and an empathetic view of reality, and health professionals will have the skills to access vital medical information stored in many large databases (Big Data & Data Mining).

Our goal is to foster meaningful connections between the students in the computational and engineering fields and those in the society and community fields, to break down existing barriers between fields and training programs, and to equip today's young people with professional and personal tools that will help them excel in the future.
